In phonics this week we are working on s blends.

Our spelling words this week are: us, but, play little, from, spot, skin, small, star & snack

We are reading Halloween themed books again during read aloud this week.

In math time, we are working on missing addends, using doubles to solve harder problems, and adding 3 addends. We are also working on problems with missing addends in problem solving.

In writing this week we are discovering how author’s make their writing better and how we can do the same thing by adding details and telling more.

We will also carve a class jack-o-lantern this week and write about it.

The book fair is going on in the library through this week. Students are enjoying shopping for books. You can send cash or set up an e-wallet to make it easier for your child to shop for books. Mrs. Skeen, our librarian, sent home a note about this previously.

I’m looking forward to another great week with your students!

October 18 – October 22, 2021

This week in phonics we are working on -ck at the end of a word and also the sound of -ing.

Our spelling words this week are: have, are, into, said, that, king, ring, pack, neck & deck.

We are reading Halloween themed books during read aloud this week.

During math this week we are working on doubles facts and doubles + 1 facts. When we learn our doubles facts, they help us know our doubles + 1 facts quickly. For example, if we know 4 + 4 = 8, then we can get 4 + 5 = 9 quickly.

In writing this week we are revising and rewriting a previous piece that we will read to our parents at parent teacher conferences. We are also choosing what writing goals we want to focus on.

Our read-a-thon fundraiser is still going and our class is doing well! Keep logging minutes at home!

I’m looking forward to another great week with your students!

This week during read aloud we will continue comparing fiction & non-fiction books.

In writing time this week we will listen to the story, Crankenstein. We will write what makes us cranky and what makes us feel better and decorate our piece like the character Crankenstein.

Our Read-a-thon fundraiser starts today. We are logging our minutes read during our silent reading time at school. We would love it if you will log students’ minutes read at home too. Also, students can earn some in-class prizes if parent’s make an account and share the link to our fundraiser on Facebook. We appreciate your help and support!

I’m looking forward to another great week with your students!
