September 13 – 17, 2021

In phonics this week we are continuing our study of word families. We will work on short a and short e word families.

Our spelling words this week are: she, big, so, not, on, red, bed, dad, mad, & jam.

Our read alouds this week focus around the theme of family.

In math we are working on addition and subtraction. We are working to become fluent with the number pairs that equal 10.

During writing we are practicing  thinking of writing ideas. We will also be reading our pieces to each other and giving each other feedback on ways to add on to our writing piece.

Students are doing well reading their guided reading books. Thank you for reading with them at night and helping them to record their reading reflection in their reading notebook!

September 7 – 10, 2021

In phonics this week we are learning about vowels & are starting our study of word families. We will start with focusing on short a word families.

Our spelling words this week are: if, me, up, be, we, cap, nap, map, bag & tag.

Our read alouds this week will continue our theme of the importance of friendship.

In math we will finish our number sense unit and begin focusing on using a ten-frame to add and subtract.

During writing time we are learning the routines of writing workshop and will focus on how to develop an idea to write about.

Today your student will begin bringing home a book for homework and a reader’s notebook. Each day they will record their book and answer a question in their notebook.

August 30 – September 3, 2021

This week we will begin having spelling words to learn by Friday when we will have a spelling test. Your student should always have them written in their planner on Mondays. Here are this week’s spelling words: on, all, see, you, can, bat, hat, mat, sit, & hit.

Our read alouds this week focus on the importance of friendship.

In phonics, we are continuing to work on recognizing & producing rhyming words.

During math time, we are continuing our study of number sense by recognizing amounts on a ten frame quickly, comparing if numbers are greater are less using a number line & recognizing the combinations of numbers that equal 10.

There is a PTO meeting tonight in the cafeteria from 6:30 – 7:30 PM. If you are available to come, I know they would appreciate your support!

August 12 – August 27, 2021

Whew! It’s been a whirlwind of a week and 2 days! We have been busy learning and practicing our rules and procedures and getting familiar with each other. We have a great class and we are going to have a great year!

This next week we will be practicing rhyming during our phonics time. Look for a Seesaw activity most days related to our phonics skill!

We will be reading books about school and books with rhyming words in them.

During writing, we will be writing about showing kindness as well as practicing our handwriting.

In math we are working on developing our number sense and showing numbers in different ways. This week we will be practicing using tally marks.

We are continuing to do many beginning of the year assessments which will continue for a couple more weeks. After Labor Day we should be finished. At that time your student will begin bringing home their reading group book to read as homework each day. More information will come about that at that time.
